Episodic
2006
The Soap Factory, Minneapolis, MN
Episodic memory is cognitive psychology’s term for autobiographical remembering, the ability to recollect and mentally re-experience one’s own past.
This installation was the first in a series in which I remapped the private interior space of remembering into the public space of the gallery. The “Episodic” network was built around fragments of old home movies, and new video I shot in Minneapolis. In this installation, I attempted to spatially reconstruct my neural networks of memory at the scale of bodies and buildings, creating a 3D map of chains of thoughts, linked by glowing fibers.
