The Aunts

Marcel Proust writes famously, in Remembrance of Things Past, of his experience of "mental time travel" triggered by eating a tea-soaked Madeline cookie at his aunt's house. The Aunts was an experiment in which I tried to transplant my food-linked personal memories into the minds of others. I invited subjects to my studio, where I read them a text about one of my aunts while they ate a particular food and drink that I associated with each woman.
